3. Tips for working with mohair

Mohair is airy and delicate. It can feel fuzzy while you work, which is part of this charm.

• Work gently.
  Avoid pulling the yarn too firmly, as mohair can break if stretched with force. Let your hands move lightly.
• Keep your tension relaxed.
  If you crochet too tightly, it may become difficult to insert your hook into the stitches. A looser tension will help the ruffles look fuller and softer.
• Take your time with each stitch.
  Because of the fuzzy texture, stitches can be harder to see. Work slowly and complete one step at a time. Good lighting can make a big difference.
• Undo stitches carefully.
  Mohair fibers tend to cling to each other. If you need to undo your work, separate the yarn gently and slowly rather than pulling.
  • If tangling occurs.
    If the fuzzy fibers become tightly tangled and do not affect the main structural strand, you may carefully trim only the tangled fuzz with small scissors instead of forcing it apart.
