Story of Kimono yarn
Kimono Yarn is a Japanese craft material made by upcycling kimono fabric that would otherwise be discarded. Each kimono is unstitched, washed, cut into 20 mm strips, joined together, and wound into balls, with almost all of the process done by hand.
To date, the brand says it has transformed more than 4,000 discarded kimonos into yarn. Because each kimono contains different weaves, embroidery, textures, colors, and materials, every strand of Kimono Yarn is unique. Positioned somewhere between yarn and ribbon, it can be used for knitting, weaving, tying, draping, wrapping, and other forms of creative making.
The brand presents Kimono Yarn as a way to enjoy the beauty and techniques of kimono fabric in a new form, condensed into just 20 mm.
