Product Description

Kimono Yarn transforms kimono fabric that can no longer be worn into a ribbon-like yarn, bringing the beauty of Japanese textiles into everyday making.

Made in Japan and shaped largely by hand, each strand is created by washing kimono fabric, taking it apart, cutting it into narrow strips, and joining the pieces together into a new material for handcraft. This process preserves the original character of the fabric, from its texture and drape to the quiet richness of its pattern.

Because each yarn begins with a different kimono, no two variants are exactly alike. Many are made from silk, while others may include cotton, wool, linen, or blended fabrics. Some feel soft and airy, some smooth and polished, and others carry the gentle crepe texture unique to traditional Japanese fabrics.

Unlike conventional spun yarn, Kimono Yarn behaves more like a soft textile ribbon. It can be used for crochet, weaving, stitching, wrapping, tassels, decorative accents, and a wide variety of handmade projects. Beautiful on its own or paired with other fibers, it adds depth, movement, and a one-of-a-kind presence to creative work.

  • Pale Yellow with Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow Flowers:
    • Synthetic fabric with a smooth, polished surface.
    • Fabric weight: Medium (3/5)
    • Reverse side: White
    • The reverse side is white, but it is not very noticeable because the face color is pale. Easy to work with thanks to its smooth texture.
    • Best for: Crochet, draping, and wrapping
    • Also suitable for: Knotting and sewing with care
  • Light Blue with Red Floral Pattern
    • Wool fabric
    • Fabric weight: Medium (3/5)
    • Reverse side: White
    • A medium-weight wool variant with a soft hand and gentle structure.
  • Natural Solid Chirimen
    • Silk chirimen
    • Fabric weight: Light (2/5)
    • Reverse side: Same as front
    • A rare plain ivory-white variant with a beautiful natural tone and elegant sheen. Easy to combine with other yarns and equally beautiful used on its own.
    • Best for: Crochet, draping, wrapping, knotting, and sewing
    • Note: Because it is thin, crochet stitches and sewn flower motifs will appear small and delicate.
  • White with House and Floral Pattern Chirimen
    • Ultra-lightweight fabric with a delicate, habutae-like feel
    • Fabric weight: Very light (1/5)
    • Reverse side: Same as front
    • Thin, soft, and slightly sheer, yet crisp enough to hold its shape. Especially beautiful for ribbons, layering, and decorative use. Also lovely for lampshades, where the light can softly shine through the fabric.
    • Best for: Draping, wrapping, layering, and knotting
    • Also suitable for: Crochet and sewing with care
    • Note: Because it is very thin, stitches and sewn flower motifs will appear small.
  • White with Colorful Kikyo Pattern Moslin
    • Wool moslin
    • Fabric weight: Light (2/5)
    • Reverse side: Same as front
    • A soft and lightweight wool fabric with bright kikyo motifs. Flexible and easy for a needle to pass through, making it especially suitable for sewing.
    • Best for: Draping, wrapping, and sewing
    • Also suitable for: Crochet with a fine, delicate result
    • Not recommended for: Tight knotting, as the fabric is soft and may tear more easily
