About This Pattern

  • Beginner-friendly (about 30 minutes to 1 hour)
  • Written instructions only (no chart)
  • Uses basic stitches
  • Small and quick to finish

This pattern is simple and repetitive, making it perfect for a relaxed crafting moment.

Materials

  • Yarn: Hamanaka Wash Cotton
    - We used this yarn for our sample because it is smooth, easy to handle, and works beautifully for small everyday accessories. Its soft texture and clean stitch definition make it a lovely choice for crocheting directly onto a hair clip.
  • You can also use any similar yarn you enjoy, especially one that is relatively fine, smooth, and comfortable to work with.
  • Crochet hook: 2.5 mm (US C-2 / JP 4/0) or a size suitable for your yarn
  • Snap hair clip
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Stitches Used

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Crochet Heart Pattern (Written Instructions)

1. Start the Base

Make a magic ring.

Ch 3, then work 4 dc into the ring.

Remove the hook, pull the magic ring closed, and carefully thread the crochet piece through the snap hair clip.

2. Cover the Hair Clip

Insert your hook again and begin working sc evenly around the hair clip to cover it.

Work steadily along the edge of the clip.

When you reach the tip of the clip, ch 3 to bridge across to the other side.

Continue working sc evenly around the clip until you reach the end.

Join with a sl st to the 3rd chain of the starting ch 3.

3. Add the Decorative Edge

Ch 1.

In the same stitch, work 2 sc.

Skip 1 stitch, then sl st into the next stitch.

Repeat this pattern all the way around the clip:

2 sc in one stitch, skip 1 stitch, sl st in the next stitch.

At the end, join with a sl st to the first stitch at the base.

4. Finish

Fasten off and weave in all yarn ends neatly.

Your crochet hair clip is now complete.

How to Use Your Crochet Hair Clip

You can make several in different shades to match your mood or the season.
